Sunny Heart Hat is an easy knitting pattern for a sun hat for babies and children. The sun hat with a brim is knitted from the bottom up. The brim has a lace pattern to keep it light and airy, and a sweet heart motif in purl stitches makes it a lovely accessory for babies and children.
The English pattern comes in two versions, one for knitting flat and one for knitting in the round, and you get both PDF files. Worked flat, the hat is knitted back and forth and seamed together at the end. Worked in the round, you switch to double-pointed needles or the magic loop technique when there are too few stitches on the needle.
Skill level: Easy
Needles:
3 mm (US 2.5) straight or circular needles
For knitting in the round: 3 mm (US 2.5), 40 cm (16 in) circular needles and double-pointed needles, or 80 cm (32 in) circular needles for magic loop
Yarn requirements:
30–40 g / approx. 105–140 yd for baby sizes
50–80 g / approx. 175–280 yd for children's sizes
(yardage based on Drops Safran)
Yarn suggestion: Drops Safran
You can use any other yarn as long as you match the tension.
1 ball of Drops Safran = 50 g / 160 m (175 yd).
Tension:
24 stitches x 32 rows/rounds = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in) in stocking stitch on 3 mm (US 2.5) needles
Sizes:
0–3 (3–6) 6–12 months
1–2 (2–3) 3–5 years
